Thoughtful Thanksgiving Decor

When planning your Thanksgiving Day gathering, consider including decorative details that cultivate a spirit of gratitude. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

• Count Your Blessings

Make a pretty jar to collect your blessings. On a clean pint jar, apply letters to spell out “Blessing Jar.” You can use letters created with a die-cutting machine or alphabet stickers, or you can write directly on your jar with a paint pen made for glass surfaces. Tie a coordinating ribbon around the rim. Encourage arriving guests to record their blessings on small pieces of paper. When everyone is gathered around the table, remove the blessings and spend some time reading them aloud. If you like, save the slips of paper to add to a scrapbook page as a keepsake.

• Give Thanks for Family Favorites

Honor the people who always prepare your family’s favorite dishes by sharing their recipes on place mats. Make it personal by asking them to contribute their specialties handwritten onto a decorative recipe card, or use old family recipe cards you might already have. Practice enlarging and photocopying the card in black and white on plain 11" x 17" paper. When you are happy with the size and placement, photocopy it in color onto card stock of the same size. Give each place mat a vintage look by spritzing the edges with Design Master Glossy Wood Tone.

• Make a Gratitude Tree

Display all the things your guests are thankful for on a mini tree sprouting from a moss-topped pumpkin. Add a layer of stones inside an open-top faux pumpkin to create a sturdy base. Then, place floral foam inside the pumpkin and push real branches into the foam. Cover the top opening by gluing a mixture of mosses around the branches. Wrap twine randomly around the pumpkin and over the moss. Secure placement by tying knots at the intersections of the twine. For the leaves, cut out paper hearts and tint them with fall shades of Design Master floral spray. Punch holes and add twine to hang the heart leaves.
