Pair pallet boards with weathered faux-tin tiles to create a fabulous farmhouse tray.

STEP 1 Start with either a ready-made blank pallet sign or your own handmade piece as a base for your tray. To build a base, lay five equal-size boards facedown on a flat surface. At each end, position a board across the width of the group and secure with a nail gun. Turn the piece faceup and attach two more boards to the top in the same fashion.
STEP 2 Check your crafting stash or ask a DIY-loving friend for leftover faux-tin vinyl backsplash tiles. Cut the tiles to fit the inside area of your tray. Give shiny finishes an aged look by dry brushing with off-white paint and then highlighting with brown/rust paint. Lightly sand small areas to expose the metal tones underneath. Coat with a matte-finish waterproof sealer.
STEP 3 Brush metal upholstery tacks with dark metallic paint. Cover with matte sealer. Secure the tiles to the center of the tray with the tacks around the outside.
STEP 4 On each side of the tray, install a dark metal handle that coordinates with the color of the tacks.
